Volga-Dnepr Technics becomes one of the first residents in the Ulyanovsk Special Economic Port Zone

On 17 August 2011, Volga-Dnepr Technics, part of Volga-Dnepr Group, signed an agreement with the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation during the MAKS-2011 Moscow Aerospace Show to become one of the first residents of the newly-established special economic port zone (SEPZ) in Ulyanovsk, Russia.

Volga-Dnepr Technics intends to develop a world-class aircraft maintenance and logistics center in the SEPZ. The company has already gained preliminary approval from the Ministry of Economic Development to construct a hangar complex at Ulyanovsk-Vostochny Airport to deliver unique maintenance and repair services in Russia/CIS for heavy Russian-built and western wide-body aircraft, such as AN-124-100, IL-76, B747, B777 and others. The first stage of construction is scheduled to start in 2013. Total investment in the project — which will create over 600 new jobs — will exceed RUB 2 billion.

Volga-Dnepr Technics’ operations in the SEPZ in Ulyanovsk will bring significant benefits to Russia’s air transport industry and the Russian/regional economy in general. The new MRO and logistics center will provide an innovative impetus to the national aircraft industry and accelerate development of the Russian aircraft maintenance market, strengthening the country’s export potential and increasing its integration into the global aircraft maintenance system. The ability to obtain quality maintenance services in Russia will facilitate the growth of national carriers and contribute to improved operational safety of Russian-built and western aircraft.
